Shocking Beheading of Indian National in Texas: Consulate Steps In to Support Family
A heartbreaking incident has shaken the Indian community in the US after a 50-year-old Indian man was brutally beheaded at his workplace in Dallas, Texas. Chandra Nagamallaiah, the victim, lost his life in a horrific attack that has left everyone stunned.
According to local reports from WFAA and CBS, the suspect is 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a Cuban migrant. Police arrested him on Wednesday and charged him with capital murder. He’s now in Dallas County Jail, awaiting further proceedings.
The Consulate General of India in Houston has expressed deep condolences for Nagamallaiah’s tragic death. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), they said they’re staying in close touch with the family and providing all possible help. "We are following up on the matter closely," the consulate added, emphasizing their support for the grieving relatives.
Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene outside the Downtown Suites motel in East Dallas. Both the victim and suspect worked at the motel. One witness told CBS that Cobos-Martinez chased Nagamallaiah with a machete, struck him multiple times, and then severed his head. Shocked locals called the attack "sick and disturbing," with some saying they couldn’t believe what they saw.
Dallas Police rushed to the spot early in the morning after reports of a stabbing. Executive Assistant Chief Terrence Rhodes shared that the initial probe shows the suspect used an edged weapon to attack the victim several times. However, police aren’t sharing more details about the ongoing investigation right now.
WFAA reports that Cobos-Martinez lived and worked at the motel. When officers caught him, he was still holding the machete and covered in blood. In a recorded interview, he even confessed to the killing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) helped with the questioning and revealed a chilling detail: after the attack, the suspect allegedly kicked the severed head like a soccer ball.
ICE also noted that Cobos-Martinez had been detained at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson until January 13 this year. They released him under supervision because no flights were available to deport him to Cuba.
This brutal murder of an Indian national in Texas has sparked outrage and sorrow. The Indian Consulate’s quick response highlights their commitment to helping families in such crises. As the investigation continues, many are hoping for justice for Chandra Nagamallaiah and his loved ones.
