Kamala Harris claims she ‘didn’t have enough time’ to beat Trump in 2024 election

Kamala Harris opened up about her 2024 election loss to Donald Trump during a recent chat on “The View.” She pointed to one key factor: she simply didn’t have enough time to build her campaign against him.

“There are many reasons why things turned out that way,” Harris told co-host Ana Navarro. “But in my view, the biggest one is we just ran out of time.” Harris stepped in after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race just three and a half months before Election Day. That left her with only 107 days to take on Trump, who had been gearing up for a decade.

She’s sharing more details in her new book, “107 Days,” named after that short sprint. Harris called her run “unprecedented” and described the 2024 presidential race as the closest one in the 21st century. Despite pouring $1.5 billion into her 15-week effort, she lost the popular vote, the Electoral College, and all seven swing states to Trump.

This “The View” appearance marked Harris’s return to the show, where a tough October 2024 interview had already stung her campaign. Back then, co-host Sunny Hostin asked if she’d do anything differently from Biden. Harris’s response? “Nothing comes to mind.” Ouch—that clip haunted her for weeks.

In her book, Harris admits she had a sharper answer ready but froze in the moment. What she wished she’d said: “I’m not Joe Biden, and I’m certainly not Donald Trump. To answer your question directly, I’ve worked with Democrats, independents, and Republicans my whole career. Great ideas come from everywhere. As president, I’d even appoint a Republican to my Cabinet.”

Instead, she skipped it, and later wrote that she had “no idea I’d just pulled the pin on a hand grenade.” Her team panicked right there on set. During a commercial break, a staffer slipped her a note urging her to circle back and mention the Republican Cabinet idea. She did, but the initial slip-up stuck.

Harris called the gaffe a “gift to the Trump campaign,” tying her too closely to an unpopular Biden. Looking back, she wondered why she didn’t distance herself more. “Why. Didn’t. I. Separate. Myself. From. Joe. Biden?” she wrote, kicking herself over the missed chance.
