A 5‑year‑old boy named Carson Lawson was tragically killed this Tuesday in Slidell, Louisiana—an accident that has shocked the community and left his family devastated.
Carson was standing outside his house, waiting for his school bus at 7 a.m., when his grandmother, 55‑year‑old Kristen Anders, started to pull out of the driveway. Police say Anders, who was allegedly drinking and taking sedatives, failed to see Carson on the road. She reportedly knocked the boy into the path of her vehicle, causing a fatal collision.
The incident left Carson’s mother, Abi Combs, heartbroken. In a Facebook post she wrote, “There is absolutely nothing in this world that I could say to truly express the sorrow I will now and forever have in my heart.” She shared photos of Carson’s smiling face and described her grief as “the most traumatic and devastating scenario I have ever endured.” Combs also asked for privacy as she mourns a child gone far too soon.
Anders was arrested at the scene and charged with vehicular homicide. The Slidell Police Department is still investigating the details of the crash. Police Chief Daniel Seuzeneau called the event “the worst nightmare” for any parent, stressing that the family is dealing not only with the loss of a beloved child but also with the arrest of Carson’s own grandmother.
As the investigation continues, Slidell residents and the wider community mourn the loss of a young life and grapple with questions about drunk‑driving dangers and the impact on families. The story underscores how quickly an ordinary morning can turn into a tragedy when alcohol and a vehicle combine in a high‑risk environment.
