An American tourist named Ann Evans, 55, vanished while on a Holland America Line cruise that was sailing through the Caribbean and scheduled to return to Florida on Sunday. The disappearance happened during a tour to the Dutch side of Sint Maarten on November 20, when she was seen getting off the bus with a group of other passengers but never came back aboard for the ferry back. French and Dutch police teamed up to find her, but after a week of searching they revealed a surprising clue on Thursday: someone matching Evans’ description used her passport to check into a hotel on the French side of the island. A post on the police’s Facebook page confirmed the woman has been spotted near that hotel. The cruise line, which left Fort Laredo in Florida on November 16, had already notified local authorities the moment Evans went missing. Authorities are now urging Evans to reach out to her family to assure them she is safe. The ship had been cruising around St. Lucia and Barbados before heading back to Florida, where it is expected to arrive tomorrow.
