A shooting broke out during a Christmas tree lighting celebration in Concord, North Carolina, on Friday, leaving four people injured, police said.
According to Concord Police, three of the victims are in critical condition while the fourth is stable. All of them were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
The gunfire erupted just before 7:30 p.m. at the city’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Union Street S, close to its intersection with Corban Avenue.
Since police, Concord Fire, and Cabarrus County EMS teams were already on-site for the event, they were able to respond instantly, providing medical assistance and helping evacuate attendees.
The rest of the event was canceled following the incident.
City officials urged visitors to clear the area and advised drivers to use different routes.
Concord Police said the shooting is still under investigation. Officers are reviewing event footage and interviewing multiple witnesses to determine what happened.
