President Trump told U.S. service members on Thanksgiving that the country is poised to curb suspected Venezuelan drug traffickers “by land” very soon. He applauded the 7th Bomb Wing of the U.S. Air Force stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, for their role in deterring Venezuelan drug operations.
During his remarks, Trump noted that in recent weeks his forces have been working to deter Venezuelan traffickers who are still a significant threat, although fewer of them are arriving by sea these days. “In recent weeks, you’ve been working to deter Venezuelan drug traffickers, of which there are many,” he said. “Of course, there aren’t too many coming in by sea anymore. Have you probably noticed that?”
The president highlighted the devastating impact of the traffickers’ poison shipments, which he said kill “hundreds of thousands of people a year” in the United States. “From sending their poisons into the United States, where they kill hundreds of thousands of people a year — but we’re going to take care of that situation,” Trump said. “We’re already doing a lot… It’s about 85% stopped by sea.” He added that the traffickers are shifting to overland routes, which will be addressed even sooner. “You probably noticed that now people aren’t wanting to be delivering by sea, and we’ll be starting to stop them by land also. The land is easier, but that’s going to start very soon.”
“We warn them, ‘stop sending poison to our country,’” Trump stated.
Earlier this month the president said he was not ruling out deploying U.S. ground troops into Venezuela amid an intensified crackdown on criminal networks linked to the country’s leadership and its drug exports. “No, I don’t rule out that, I don’t rule out anything,” he told reporters on November 17 when asked about sending troops to Venezuela.
Since early September, the administration has struck at least 21 of these trafficking vessels in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean, many of which were connected to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang and Colombia’s Ejército de Liberación Nacional. These strikes have destroyed dozens of boats and cut off key supply lines for drug traffickers.
The White House has not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
