US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has exciting news for wealthy individuals and companies eyeing a piece of the American dream. The new Trump Gold Card visa program is now officially up and running, offering permanent residency in the US for a hefty price tag.
For just $1 million, high-net-worth individuals can snag a Gold Card that lets them live, work, and build businesses in America right away. Companies can jump in too, paying $2 million per employee to sponsor them under a corporate version of the card. The company owns it and can even transfer it to another worker for a fee.
Lutnick, in a recent post on X, stressed that this program puts American interests first. “The Trump Gold Card restores our immigration policy by prioritizing US citizens,” he wrote. It targets people and businesses that boost the economy, create jobs, and invest in the country—while helping cut the federal deficit.
Every applicant faces tough scrutiny from the Department of Homeland Security, plus a $15,000 processing fee. This isn’t about flooding the gates; it’s a smart swap for outdated systems like the diversity visa lottery, which Lutnick calls a program that “brings down America” by not focusing on top talent.
Instead of the lottery’s random picks, the Gold Card replaces key employment-based green card categories, such as EB-1 for extraordinary talent and EB-2 for advanced degrees. It kicks off with 80,000 visas available, aiming to pull in global power players who can supercharge the US economy.
Gold Card holders get full permanent resident perks, including a clear path to US citizenship. The Trump administration sees this premium immigration option as a revenue goldmine, potentially raking in billions for the US Treasury while reshaping how America welcomes newcomers.
