2.42 crore cases settled across in country in 3rd National Lok Adalat

India’s justice system got a big boost on Saturday with the 3rd National Lok Adalat of 2025 resolving over 2.42 crore cases across the country. The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) shared these impressive numbers in a statement, highlighting how this event brought quick relief to millions.

Under the guidance of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, who serves as NALSA’s Patron-in-Chief, and Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant, the NALSA Executive Chairman, the Lok Adalat ran in taluks, districts, and high courts spanning 29 states and 8 union territories. Early reports up to 6:30 p.m. show a whopping 2,42,55,036 cases settled—that’s 2,10,44,809 pre-litigation matters and 32,10,227 pending court cases. The total settlement value crossed Rs 7,817.62 crore, and NALSA expects the final tally to climb higher as more reports come in from state legal services authorities.

This National Lok Adalat tackled a wide range of disputes, from criminal compoundable offences and plea bargaining to revenue and bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, cheque dishonour issues, labour disputes, matrimonial matters (except divorces), land acquisition cases, intellectual property rights, consumer complaints, electricity and water bill disputes, traffic challans, and various civil cases. Thousands of benches operated at the same time nationwide, helping people from all backgrounds sort out issues that could have dragged on in courts for years.

NALSA emphasized that the real win goes beyond the numbers—it’s about building trust in alternative dispute resolution methods like Lok Adalats. “From family feuds to business claims, these settlements show a shift towards talking things out instead of fighting, proving justice can be fast and friendly,” the statement noted. The authority is committed to connecting justice with everyday citizens, especially the marginalized and vulnerable, aiming for a future where amicable solutions become the go-to option, not the last one.

Held four times a year, National Lok Adalats form a key part of NALSA’s drive for accessible, affordable, and speedy dispute resolution in India. They’re a game-changer for minor legal matters that often pile up in courts, offering real hope for quicker resolutions.
