New Delhi — Indian athlete and adventurer Mann Sharma began a historic challenge on Monday, kicking off the world’s first Burpee Marathon at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in New Delhi. The event, called “Mann vs Burpees,” will see Sharma cover the full marathon distance of 42.195 km by doing burpee broad jumps for ten consecutive days.
The start was marked by Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, who served as the chief guest. Sharma will run 106 laps around the 400‑meter track, living on campus throughout the attempt. The challenge is endorsed by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and organized by Question Associates in partnership with Fit India, and is being documented by the World Book of Records.
Mann vs Burpees is more than a personal record. The marathon is a fundraiser and awareness drive for The One Friend NGO, which supports education and empowerment for under‑privileged children across India. Each burpee Sharma performs carries the hope of a child who deserves a better future.
“This is the moment we’ve built toward, months of training, preparation and purpose come down to this,” Sharma told reporters before his first lap. “Mann vs Burpees isn’t just about endurance—it’s about proving that no dream is too big when your why is strong enough.”
Sharma’s record‑breaking ambition follows a career of endurance feats: a 24‑hour 100‑km run for the homeless, 29 hours of burpees to fund children’s education, a 205‑km walk from Delhi to Agra and climbing Bali’s three highest peaks to raise money for suicide prevention. He trained at top football academies in Italy and Spain, including the Paolo Rossi Academy and the Real Madrid Foundation Camp, overcoming injuries and a pandemic‑related setback.
Sports officials and supporters say the marathon will showcase Indian youth’s resilience and determination. “Through Mann vs Burpees, sport is not just about competition but about transformation,” Mandaviya said. “Everyone in the nation stands united behind him as he takes on this historic journey, one burpee at a time.”
As Sharma plunges into the first stretch of burpee jumps, the world watches India’s next endurance icon cement a legacy of fitness, charity and national pride.
