In the Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas, a 10‑year‑old boy was left at the India‑Bangladesh border after a heated argument between his parents. Police say the incident happened on a Tuesday night when the child’s father, Pintu Ghosh, drove his motorbike toward the border, leaving the boy trembling on the road. The 10‑year‑old cried in fear and panic, but local residents heard him and rushed to help.
Police quickly arrived at the scene, picked up the boy, and took him back to the Basirhat police station with his family. Officers then called his mother, Madhavi Ghosh, and his father. The boy’s home lies in the Kathpol area under Ashoknagar police jurisdiction.
Investigators say domestic disputes between the couple had worsened recently. The mother had taken the child to her parents’ house, then headed to her father’s home, leaving the boy with his paternal grandparents. The next night, the father decided to abandon his son at the border. He loaded the boy into his motorbike, asked him to dismount near the border, turned the bike away, and drove off.
Neighbors who heard the boy’s sobbing quickly offered him food and comfort and reported the story to the police. Officers assured the child he would be returned safely and began counseling the adults involved for their irresponsible actions. The boy returned home, and both parents now face police counseling for their conduct.
