On November 26 in Chennai, reports suggest that former Tamil Nadu minister K.A. Sengottaiyan is closing in on a move to join actor Vijay’s new party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The potential shift follows a sharp fallout between the veteran politician, a nine‑time MLA and veteran strategist of the AIADMK, and the party’s general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS). When EPS imposed a deadline to “uniting the AIADMK,” Sengottaiyan publicly opposed the mandate, prompting the party head to strip him of all organisational duties. The feud intensified after Sengottaiyan travelled to Pasumpon to meet former chief minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) and AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran, actions that infuriated EPS’s camp and eventually led to Sengottaiyan’s expulsion from the party’s primary membership. Feeling sidelined, he began weighing a switch to Vijay’s outfit. Rumours had already been swirling for days that he might resign as MLA and join the actor‑politician’s party. The speculation was confirmed when Sengottaiyan met Speaker M. Appavu in the Chennai Secretariat on Wednesday and formally retired from his seat representing Gobichettipalayam. The resignation sparked a flurry of political chatter about his next step. At the same time, Vijay and party secretary N. Anand were reportedly talking at Vijay’s home in Pattinapakkam, Chennai, likely discussing how to slot Sengottaiyan into a prominent role within TVK. In a rapid development later that afternoon, the new‑resigned legislator turned up at Vijay’s Pattinapakkam house, where sources say he met the actor face‑to‑face to hash out his future and the possibility of joining TVK. The conversation comes as the party prepares for its maiden major contest in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. For TVK, bringing in a seasoned leader like Sengottaiyan—whose organisational skills and campaign experience are highly regarded—could prove a significant advantage. An official announcement is expected soon, and all indications point to Sengottaiyan’s imminent induction into Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, signalling one of the most consequential realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
