From ‘CEO’ to ‘Ghazwa’ leader: Inside Danish Ashhar’s ISIS code names

Suspected ISIS Operative Busted in Ranchi: Plotting Major Terror Attacks with Pakistani Links

In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police’s Special Cell and Jharkhand ATS arrested Danish Ashhar on September 10 in Ranchi. This suspected ISIS operative was planning large-scale terror attacks in the city, all under orders from his handlers in Pakistan.

Officials revealed that Ashhar, who went by the code name "CEO" and the title "Ghazwa Leader" in the ISIS network, stayed in touch with Pakistan-based terror operatives. He pushed the idea of creating a "Caliphate in India" and recruited young people from various states to join his terror module. Each recruit got specific tasks to carry out.

The agencies had been tracking Ashhar for almost six months. Acting on solid intelligence, they raided spots in Ranchi, Delhi, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Karnataka. This led to the arrest of five more suspects connected to the ISIS module in India.

During the search of Ashhar’s room at Tabarak Lodge in Ranchi, police found chemicals and tools for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Items included copper sheets, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfur powder, sodium bicarbonate, ball bearings, an electronic scale, a pH checker, and lab beakers. Sources say Ashhar was deep into preparing explosives for attacks.

Hailing from Petarwar in Bokaro district, Jharkhand, Ashhar checked into the lodge using his Aadhaar card. It listed his father’s name as Majrul Hasan. Locals described him as a quiet guy who kept to himself and avoided chit-chat. Even his roommate—a student—had no clue about his ISIS ties. Terror groups like ISIS train members to stay secretive, hiding their plans from everyone, including family.

This isn’t the first time Ranchi has seen ISIS activity. Earlier arrests in the city’s Chanho area nabbed suspects, including radiologist Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed. Probes back then pointed to ISIS eyeing Jharkhand as a spot for a terror training base.

Investigators continue to dig deeper into Ashhar’s operations and the full ISIS network in India. More details could emerge soon as the Jharkhand terror plot unravels.
