Shiv Sena (UBT) has hit out hard at the BJP-led central government over the recent India-Pakistan cricket match in Dubai. In a fiery editorial in their mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, the Thackeray faction called it a clear sign of the government’s shaky patriotism, fake Hindutva, and outright hypocrisy.
They accused the Union government of basically funding terrorists by greenlighting the match. “Every Indian must speak up against this,” the editorial urged, slamming how the event poured money into Pakistan’s pockets.
According to Shiv Sena (UBT), the Pakistan Cricket Board pocketed at least Rs 1,000 crore from the Asia Cup clash in Dubai. On top of that, betting earnings topped Rs 50,000 crore, with a big chunk flowing to gambling networks in Pakistan. This, they said, only bolsters the terrorists targeting India.
The party drew a sharp contrast with Bollywood. Remember how singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s film faced massive backlash for casting a Pakistani actress? Yet, here we have a full-blown India vs Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup, raking in thousands of crores for Pakistan in just one day. “How is this okay?” the editorial questioned.
It claimed true patriots switched off their TVs the moment the match began, refusing to watch. The piece even quoted cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, who said, “The central government has decided to play cricket with Pakistan. The BCCI and players have no choice but to follow.”
Actor Nana Patekar echoed the sentiment, blasting the decision: “My people’s blood was spilled. Why play with those who caused it?”
Shiv Sena (UBT) ramped up the criticism, pointing fingers at ICC President Jay Shah – son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Jay Shah, who headed the BCCI from 2019 to 2024, got slammed for prioritizing money over real patriotism. The editorial suggested the match went ahead because of his influence, calling it a “business deal” dressed up as cricket.
This controversy has sparked heated debates on India-Pakistan cricket ties, government policies, and national security, especially amid ongoing tensions.
