The Indian Navy’s offshore patrol vessel, INS Savitri, docked in Mauritius’s Port Louis on Saturday, marking a fresh step in the growing partnership between the two countries. The ship’s arrival was warmly received by the National Coast Guard of Mauritius, highlighting the shared goal of boosting maritime security across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
INS Savitri’s port call is part of a joint effort to improve “extra‑territorial jurisdiction” (EEZ) surveillance, training, and crew exchanges. In a statement on the social‑media platform X, a Navy official said the temporary visit will help both navies refine their standard operating procedures for future operations. The crews will also swap friendly competition in sports and open the ship’s deck to local visitors, strengthening community ties and raising awareness of maritime defence.
“We’re building stronger ties on the basis of trust, shared values, and common maritime interests,” the Navy added. The visit dovetails with the launch of the third Maritime Information Sharing Workshop (MISW 2025). Government officials say the three‑day event, hosted by the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC‑IOR) in Gurugram, will bring together partners from 30 nations to discuss real‑time coordination and shared information.
Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, opened MISW 2025 by stressing the importance of trust‑based partnerships to counter the evolving threats faced across the IOR. The workshop’s theme – “Enhancing Real‑Time Coordination and Information Sharing Across the Indian Ocean Region’’ – will focus on how technology and intelligence can improve collective resilience and secure the seas for the future.
Together, the ship’s visit to Mauritius and the MISW 2025 workshop underline India’s commitment to a safe, secure, and collaborative Indian Ocean Region, uniting operational expertise with strategic foresight for a sustainable maritime future.
