Hyderabad – In a clear statement Tuesday, the Hyderabad District Election Officer, R.V. Karnan, said there were no irregularities in voter rolls for the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by‑election on Nov. 11.
Karnan responded to media reports that highlighted a few addresses with unusually large numbers of voters. The inquiry looked at four houses where one had 50 voters and another 43. After a thorough review, the officer confirmed that all those names were already on the final rolls for the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. No new enrolments were made for the by‑election.
The high voter counts were explained by the fact that some buildings house many flats. For example, one house has three floors plus a penthouse, and another contains 15 apartments. Thus the large numbers simply reflect the size of the properties.
“Since 2023 the number of electors at these addresses has not changed, so claims of new registrations are incorrect,” Karnan told reporters.
The BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) leadership, led by party president K.T. Rama Rao, had accused the ruling Congress government of “vote‑theft” over the same allegations. The BRS spokesperson, Y. Satish Reddy, pointed to the group of 43 voters in a single house, even suggesting that one belonged to another constituency but was registered in Jubilee Hills for the by‑election. Another BRS leader, Krishank Manne, alleged that voters from the Nakrekal and Uppal constituencies were mistakenly enrolled in Jubilee Hills.
The election commission’s latest roll lists 3,99,000 voters in the constituency – 2,07,382 men, 1,91,593 women and 25 non‑binary voters. The figure represents a 3.49 % rise from the 3,85,287 voters counted in the 2023 Assembly poll.
The by‑election follows the death of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath of BRS in June. The returning officer has issued the official notice, and polling is scheduled for Nov. 11, with vote counting to take place on Nov. 14.
