Lucknow Mayor Cracks Down on Absent Civic Officials, Plans to Alert UP CM Yogi Adityanath

In a bold move to fix Lucknow’s municipal woes, Mayor Sushma Kharakwal has decided to complain directly to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She’s fed up with civic officials who skip work and leave citizens in the lurch. On Thursday, Kharakwal demanded a detailed report from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) Commissioner about these absent employees.

Kharakwal, Lucknow’s first citizen, shared how this irresponsibility hits everyday people hard. "The Chief Minister keeps stressing efficient public services, but some officials are undoing all that hard work," she said. Residents have flooded her office with complaints—people can’t find staff at their desks, and simple tasks get stuck for months.

Take the case of one poor pension applicant. This person has chased paperwork for two whole years, all because officials aren’t around to help. "I’ve been hearing these stories for a while now," Kharakwal added. "Citizens’ work piles up in offices, and no one seems to care."

To get to the bottom of it, the Mayor sprang a surprise inspection on the LMC office that day. Shockingly, besides the Commissioner, most senior officials were nowhere to be seen. She immediately fired off a letter to the Commissioner, asking for the exact locations of these missing staffers. "If they say they were at meetings, I want proof—like the venue details. I’ll verify everything myself," she declared.

Kharakwal isn’t stopping there. She’s compiled a list of these truant officials and sent it to the administration. If they don’t act fast, she’ll escalate the issue straight to CM Yogi Adityanath. Her goal? Make sure Lucknow Municipal Corporation employees show up and deliver.

But that’s not all. The Mayor also blasted the LMC for leaking confidential reports to the public. "I asked about one such report that went viral, and officials acted clueless," she revealed. She made it clear: These staffers handle sensitive documents, and they must protect them. "We’re elected to serve the people, so officials can’t dodge blame. They get paid from taxpayers’ money—time to step up and stop the laxity."

This isn’t the first time Uttar Pradesh officials face heat for slacking off. Just months ago, UP Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi wrote to the CM, complaining that officers ignore ministers, delay files, and create roadblocks in key projects. Even BJP MLAs have raised similar alarms about unresponsive civic staff.

Kharakwal’s strong words signal a push for better governance in Lucknow. With public complaints mounting, will the UP government step in to whip the municipal team into shape? Citizens are watching closely, hoping for real change in their daily services.
