Madhya Pradesh High Court Issues Notices to Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi Over ‘Jolly LLB 3’ Song Controversy
In a dramatic twist just days before its big release, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has slapped notices on Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. The court is also targeting producer Alok Jain, director Subhash Kapoor, and others in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the catchy song "Bhai Vakeel Hai" from the upcoming film Jolly LLB 3. This legal drama has everyone talking, especially with the movie set to hit theaters on September 19.
The Division Bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf, wants quick answers. They’ve asked all parties to file their replies by September 17—giving just two days before the film’s launch. The PIL comes from Jabalpur resident and advocate Pranjal Tiwari, who lives in Govind Bhawan Colony. Tiwari, represented by lawyers Pramod Singh Tomar and Arzoo Ali, argues that the song trashes the respect lawyers deserve.
At the heart of the complaint are the song’s cheeky lyrics like "Rago mein tigdambaazi hai, har taale ki chaabi hai… har case ki package deal hai, fikr na kar tera bhai vakeel hai." Tiwari says these lines paint lawyers as shady deal-makers, mocking the serious side of the legal profession. The video doesn’t help either—Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi groove in lawyers’ gowns and neckbands, which the petitioner calls a direct insult to courtroom dignity.
Tiwari believes this kind of portrayal could mislead young people and even break rules under Section 5(b) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. That section cracks down on content that harms public morals or decency. The PIL also ropes in big names like the Madhya Pradesh State Government, the Principal Secretary of the Home Department, the Information and Broadcasting Secretary, and the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
During the hearing, the state’s lawyer pointed out that a similar case got shot down by the Allahabad High Court. That court refused to block the film’s release over the same song. But the Madhya Pradesh bench isn’t backing off—they stressed that pulling in the producer and director is key if they want to step in and make changes.
As Jolly LLB 3 gears up for its September 19 debut, this Bollywood legal battle is stealing the spotlight. Lawyers and movie fans alike are eyeing the court’s next move after September 17. Will the song stay or get the chop? Stay tuned for updates on this Jolly LLB 3 controversy.
