On Saturday, Dr S. Ramadoss, the founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), announced that the party will hold integrated district‑level working committee meetings across all districts in Tamil Nadu. The plan comes as tensions between him and his son, party president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, grow deeper.
Dr Ramadoss said the meetings will involve every level of the party—state, district, city, union, town and area heads—alongside activists and other special invitees. The goal is to strengthen the organisation, review development work, and set the PMK’s next political steps. “These gatherings will help us gauge our progress and prepare for the challenges ahead,” he added.
The announcement comes amid a visible split within the PMK’s founding family. The father and son differ on leadership style, decision‑making, and the alliance strategy for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Dr Ramadoss favours a traditional, cadre‑driven model centred on the Vanniyar community, the party’s core support base. In contrast, Anbumani is pushing for a modern, development‑oriented image to attract younger and urban voters.
Adding another layer to the family dynamics, Dr Ramadoss recently appointed his daughter, Srikanthi Parasuram, as the party’s Working President. The move is seen as a way to consolidate his influence and maintain balance in the top leadership amid the growing father‑son rift.
Party insiders say the district meetings, overseen directly by Dr Ramadoss, will not only address party matters but also serve as a display of his authority. Political observers view the gatherings as a statement of control by the veteran leader as the PMK navigates an increasingly delicate internal power struggle.
