Pune’s political headlines fluttered again this weekend when Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party, told reporters he was unaware of a disputed land deal in his state capital that involved his son, Parth Pawar.
The row centers on a 40‑acre plot in Pune’s upscale Mundhwa‑Koregaon Park, reportedly valued at ₹300 cr. The transaction was conducted by Parth’s company, Amedea Enterprises LLP, and the sale deed was allegedly exempted from ₹21 cr in stamp duty. Pawar said he would not have permitted the deal if he had known about it. “If I had known, I wouldn’t have allowed it,” he said.
To chase the truth, the Maharashtra Revenue Department has set up a six‑member inquiry led by Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Kharge. Pawar insists the committee will uncover how the deal was registered when a sale deed is technically impossible for such land. He added the state government must not suffer from ill‑fated transactions and that the findings will surface “within a month.”
An FIR is already registered, but it does not name Parth directly. The complaint names three people: Digvijay Patil, authorised signatory of Amedea Enterprises; Shital Tejwani, Parth’s cousin who held a power‑of‑attorney for the original landowners; and Ravindra Taru, the sub‑registrar who processed the sale. The Revenue Department has suspended Taru and tehsildar Suryakant Yewale over their roles.
Parth Pawar’s side of the story remains quiet, and the Deputy CM said he was not involved in a separate Bopodi land deal that also listed the Pawar name. The state’s Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, confirmed that the FIR targeted the people who were present at the registration office, not Parth himself.
Political observers note the case has become a flashpoint in Maharashtra politics. Sharad Pawar, the NCP‑SP chief and Ajit’s uncle, echoed calls for a transparent inquiry, saying the Chief Minister has declared the issue serious. Pawar noted the committee already in place would eventually reveal the “real picture” to the public.
Headlines in Pune now read “Pune land deal row: Ajit Pawar says no knowledge, investigation underway.” The story continues to develop as the inquiry reports its findings.
