In Guwahati on November 3, the Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, spoke at the Indo‑French North‑East Investment Forum about how the northeast is becoming the next hotspot for India‑France cooperation.
Scindia called the Forum a “bridge between vision and venture” and reminded everyone that the partnership between India and France isn’t just about treaties; it’s built on trust. He said the ties have grown into one of the world’s most comprehensive strategic partnerships, blending strategy, innovation and inclusion.
He highlighted how the relationship covers defence and space, clean energy, digital transformation and sustainable cities. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India and France have launched several high‑profile projects. Scindia listed the International Solar Alliance in 2015, smart‑city collaborations, the Rafale fighter jet deal tied to “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” and the launch of UPI from the Eiffel Tower in 2024, which put India’s fintech boom on the European map.
The new north‑east frontier, Scindia said, is no longer a land‑locked region. Investment of over ₹6.2 lakh crore from India’s 10 % GBS quota has built 6,500 km of roads, 900 km of rail, 17 operational airports, and 96 % of villages now have BharatNet connectivity.
French companies are already driving change. Total Energies is leading green power projects, Airbus is building aviation infrastructure, Dassault Systèmes is driving design innovation, Decathlon is expanding retail, and POMA is advancing sustainable mobility.
The minister closed by saying that the northeast now looks “land‑linked and future‑ready,” thanks to these growing Indo‑French ties.
